AUTHENTIC EDWARDIAN Day/Lawn Dress 1910
When I think of Halloween, I think of spirits of the past, mostly ghostly women haunting cemetaries...and that may have fueled my fascination with collecting antique white dresses!
Here is an offering of one of those dresses, from 1910, and quite unique in that ist displays various laces of the day.
This ANTIQUE Edwardian lawn dress is a beautiful piece for display or for wear, and still wearable for your haunted attire! A faded white color, I count perhaps 7 different kinds of lace used in this dress, from battenburg lace, broderie anglaise, tambour lace, tambour lace, machine lace, and netting.
Both the bodice and the skirt edge are heavily laced, as are the sleeves. There is a wide variety of designs throughout the dress! There are even small rows of lace the go down the dress vertically.
The top bodice has netting, and rosette fabric decorative buttons.Netting is also found down the back of the dress. White buttons and loops close the back. The condition of the lace and the dress itself is VERY good, no rips, a very sturdy dress.
I will also say there are a few small, circular, rust colored stains on this dress, the largest being no more than half the size of a dime. The largest of this is at the back waist closure, which is the only place there is a metal hook closure, and it appears to have rusted into a stain there.
I have tried to point the stains out in a few pictures. I believe there are 4 that pepper the back of the dress (near button closures), 3 or four on the sleeves, and one on the front skirt of the dress that I consider barely noticeable.
You may see photos #4 and #5 by my fingers to see some of the stains.
