Vintage Dark Red Folk Shawl

Here is a charming vintage floral folk shawl from the Ukraine.

There is much lore surrounding folk shawls and their uses in Europe.
Depending on the pattern of the shawl, color, materials, and even how the shawl is tied, one could figure a woman's general age, marital status, social status, and what village they lived in.

Traditionally, folk shawls/kerchiefs were worn to cover the head, shoulders and even around the waist in some cases. Many vintage shawls (such as this), are made entirely of wool with printed designs of flowers. They are valued in winter for keeping the wearer warm and being durable. Larger shawls were used to cover the body, or to decorate tables or other household surfaces.

This medium shawl is a DEEP, dark red, with standard red, yellow, and blue flowers and green leaves. This shawl dates to the late 70's/early 80's and is made of 100% wool. It is in EXCELLENT condition with NO holes, rips, or stains. It will come well packed with care instructions.
