ANTIQUE Chinese Enameled "Garden" Pillbox 1944
Here is a tiny treasure for you to consider.
This small box was one of several I have collected when I found them throughout antique fairs in New York City.
This pillbox has enameled sides. The main color is deep blue with red blue and yellow flowers and foliage. The top has some sort of silver "crowning" around the top edges and it appears to be enveloping the top design. I have no answers to what the material is at the top of the lid, other than to say it is NOT ivory, and I am not sure if it is celluloid. The top seems to be of a Chinese motif and I had someone postulate that the box may have been a New York Chinatown jeweler's creation and was used to hold snuff at one time.
The inside is metal and seems to be slighly scuffed, but otherwise in good condition for its age.
